SEM, SEO e Links Patrocinados: quem é quem e quais as diferenças

Nas sessões de treinamento sobre SEM que tenho dado ultimamente aqui na empresa e nos seminários e palestras que tenho assistido pude constatar que ainda hoje existe confusão entre o que é SEM, SEO e PPC.

Algumas pessoas referem-se a SEM querendo dizer PPC e outras usam SEO achando que é SEM. Já vi e ouvi de tudo. Considerando-se que a Inglaterra é o segundo mercado mais desenvolvido na área de search, atrás apenas dos Estados Unidos, isso é um tanto surpreendente.

No Brasil, até onde eu sei, o termo utilizado em português é marketing em mecanismos de busca. Ainda não há uma clara definição quanto ao termo que será adotado como padrão pela indústria. Você encontra este e outros termos no glossário oficial do site da SEMPO, a organização profissional que auxilia na regulamentação e educação da indústria de search.

Através do meu irmão, Thiago Bacchin, sei que as agências no Brasil juntamente com a IAB, estão revisando o glossário em português e pretendem lançar uma versão final que será então utilizada como padrão no mercado brasileiro. Já era hora.

Em inglês você poderá encontrar o termo search engine marketing apenas como search marketing, sem o “engine”, mas é a mesma coisa.

Search Engine Marketing - SEM
Search marketing é a área de marketing online responsável pelas estratégias e técnicas que envolvem a geração e o aumento de tráfego proveniente de ferramentas de busca, assim como a promoção e proteção de marca nos resultados das mesmas. SEO e PPC são diferentes áreas de SEM e de maneira alguma excludentes.

Search Engine Optimisation – SEO
SEO ou Otimização de Sites nada mais é do que um conjunto de técnicas implementadas dentro e fora do seu site que tem como objetivo potencializar a presença de um site nos resultados orgânicos.

Quando digo presença, me refiro à algo maior do que posicionamento. Um exemplo: quando edito e otimizo um page title e description tag, não levo apenas em consideração o benefício que isso trará ao posicionamento da página, mas também a eficácia da mensagem no texto em gerar o interesse do usuário no meu site. Em outras palavras, incluo a palavra-chave, mas acima de tudo, vendo o meu produto! Posicionamento? Com certeza! Mas como você se comunica através das suas listagens também.

Certo ou não, o termo SEO também é usado quando se refere ao profissional especialista na área, ou seja, um otimizador é também um SEO.

Links Patrocinados - Pay Per Click/PPC/Sponsored Links
Links patrocinados é um sistema de anúncios em resultados de ferramentas de busca, onde o anunciante paga uma determinada quantia por clique. Os anúncios somente são apresentados para buscas de termos selecionados previamente pelo anunciante.

Existem outras áreas em search marketing tais como inclusão paga, proteção de marca e link building (aquisição de links) mas por enquanto vamos ficar nas principais.
